The cover photo, taken by the inimitable Jessi Brock, is from when I got hit by a car back in 2014. Not sure if you know that story but the short version is, I had just become a dad a few months prior and I was working for Chrome Hearts in West Hollywood at the time. While on my lunch break, I got blindsided crossing Santa Monica Blvd. I still remember the feeling of thinking I was dying in the middle of the road.
This song isn't exactly about that event, but it's a really really really fun way of introducing a new project/band that will speak predominantly about topics of trauma, death, suffering, and on rare occasions, hope. Enjoy!
lyrics
(They told me,
"If you don't stand for something,
You'll fall for anything!"
I think I may have heard that
Somewhere else, but
I think they may be on to something
I may be on to something
THEY'RE ON TO ME
There's something inside of me
Rejecting monogamy
What have I become?
Nihilist? Atheist?)
I died and went to heaven
Don't know how I did
I was too fucked up
To remember what God said
Remember what God said?
(Uh-uh)
Remember what God said
(Uh-uh)
(Inside my chest, there's a good heart
Longing, for a fresh start
'til then, I'm a scumbag salesman)
I died and went to heaven
But then I went to hell
On my way back to earth
Or was it purgatory?
I couldn't tell
I got turned around
(Fuck)
Turn me around
(Fuck)
I died and spoke to Jesus
And all of his saints
They said,
"Go back before it's too late!"
Before it's too late?
(God damnit)
Before it's too late
(God damnit!)
