well I packed my bags for Wichita
to visit my sweet Mary
because she got really sick
and I thought she could use the company
and I knew it'd take a long time
but I wasn't sure what to expect
so I told myself it would all be worth the drive
so I drove across the panhandle
and I bought myself a nice sweatshirt
it said, "it's a Texas thing... ya'll wouldn't understand"
but trust me once I saw it
I knew right away I could relate
because my friends, you just don't understand
it's funny how everything is the same
but then again it's really not at all
and these strangers I keep talking to
don't even know my name
but I don't know them either so it's okay
and I stayed a night in Texas
with my grandmother and Mr. Lee
and it seemed like everyone had turned against me
I got into an argument on the phone with my mother
and they told me "find your own way home"
so I did my little mantra
and I told myself to just hold on
because in all honesty, it's really not that bad there
and I knew it would all be worth it
once I saw that look on Mary's face
when she saw me standing at her door
she opened that screen door
and her eyes were filled with happiness
and I realized that moment alone
was worth the whole trip
so I came inside, sat down, relaxed
and she gave me a few special things
to remember her by
"it's in the cards, it's in the cards!"
